As the backbone of your agricultural operation, tractors do every job from plowing, seeding, and harvesting to storing and carrying. In the process, these powerful workhorses tend to collect dirt, dust, and debris, which can impact productivity over time. We here at Abell & Son want to help you get the most from your tools, so we’ve put together some tips for keeping your tractors clean. Owner’s Manual

Cleaning is a maintenance process, so you’ll want to look through your owner’s manual before you get started. Your manual should contain recommendations for products and best practices, and will mention any parts of your tractor that require special cleaning. If you don’t know where your owner’s manual is, the manufacturer’s website should have a copy you can download or print.

Wash The Exterior

Step one in the cleaning process is a good hosing. Rinse the entire tractor—a garden hose will do if you want to be careful with paint and finish, but a pressure washer will get rid of gunk faster. Use a soap and water mixture and a sponge to scrub the entire surface of the tractor from top to bottom, rinsing as you go to prevent the soap drying on and undoing all your work. Avoiding getting any instrument panels or electronics wet or soapy. Once the tractor is dry, grease all necessary points.

Cleaning The “Interior”

Whether your tractor has a cab or an open-air seat, the area designated for the operator needs some special attention. Use a damp rag to carefully wipe all controls and remove any traces of dirt or mud. Wipe down the seat as well to keep you clean while you drive it, then vacuum up any dirt from the floorboards.

Final Touches

A solid coating of wax will help protect your tractor’s paint from getting scratched or chipped and will repel dirt and dust for a while. It’s easy to apply and can make your tractor look brand-new! Car wax and a rag to buff it in with should do the trick, but avoid getting any on the seat, controls, or engine.

We hope this guide helps you keep your tractor looking and operating like new!
